My husband and I just returned from Siem Reap where we stayed three
nights at the Heritage Suites Hotel. We have stayed at some wonderful
boutique hotels around the world, and this is now one of our favorites.
The hotel staff picked us up at the airport in a vintage
Mercedes and provided cool, scented towels and fresh juices. We arrived
on a Buddhist holiday, so we could hear the monks reciting their
meditations/prayers that day. The hotel is situated across the street
from a wat and a school, so it was a treat to see the children playing
in the schoolyard when we left the hotel property.
We booked a
deluxe room, but we were upgraded to a bungalow suite. We toured the
deluxe room and it was very nice; we would have been quite happy there.
But the bungalow had the "wow" factor with pod bath, indoor and outdoor
showers, sauna, Zen design and a large glass doors opening to a private
garden. Total privacy. We left the roman shades open at night so we
could wake to the view of our garden in the morning.
The hotel
is not in the middle of town and we liked it that way. It was great to
come back to the serenity of this hotel and relax – away from the noise
on bigger streets near the river, Pub Street and the center of town. It
took only a few minutes by tuk-tuk to get to restaurants in the main
part of town, but we chose to eat dinner at the hotel two out of three
nights. We dined near the pool one night and upstairs in the main
building another night. Both provided excellent food, service and
ambience. We loved the "shrimp purses" appetizer and the Khmer dishes.
This
hotel is a special place with wonderful staff and good management. I
count myself lucky to have chosen this hotel over the others. It fit
our preference for secluded, boutique hotels with great design and
excellent service. We will definitely go back.
